It was a pretty massive list, though, and I know that many of you just want the best spells in the game. I have made my fair share of mistakes while trying to create the perfect spell, but I did manage to come across a massive list of useful combinations that have served me quite well in recent years. However, making the right spells is not always as easy as it seems. I would go as far as saying that Oblivion has the best spell-making mechanics in the TES series. I recommend either Gloom or Voracious Hunger because Lich and Xivilai can resist/reflect magic making your Soul Trap useless.Oblivion allows you to make some absolutely fantastic custom spells, many of which are far better than any other piece of crappy magic that the game comes with. Unlimited Grand Souls at the cost of a bit of MP. So you can just summon them, trap their souls, and kill them yourself. Gloom Wraith, Lich, Xivilai, and Voracious Hunger all have Grand Souls. And you should take up Conjuration if you're going to be enchanting things because, unlike Skyrim, you can Soul Trap your own Summons! It deals 5pts over 3 seconds (or 15 total) and has a really low MP cost.

The Weak Fireball you get from the Skingrad's Mages Guild Quest is another option. A custom "Fire Damage 10pts for 3 seconds on Touch" (which equals 30pts of Fire Damage total) spell would be best if you're low level. They're tougher than normal vampires as they have a special buff that gives them extra strength and 30% armor IIRC (I'll have to look them up in the Construction Set).īring Fire spells. You have to clear a cave of vampires to complete the quest. Visit the Cheydinhal Mages Guild and talk to Trayvon. You can get Azura's Star as early as Level 2. Probably the most common ones are Minotaur Lords, but also Xivalai, Gloom Wraiths, Liches, the tougher Ogres. Other than that, you just have to be careful not to fill an empty one with something you don't want and go find something with a grand soul to fill it with. It's tough to find a time when there's nobody there, and you'll need to be able to pick the lock, but that's an option. There are a couple of already filled grand soul gems in a very hard locked case in the lobby of the Arcane University. They're not cheap, but at that point, you should have more money than you need anyway.Īnother good way to get them is to convert empty grand soul gems into black soul gems, since they're filled with human souls, which are always grand (just be careful with soul trap, since a black soul gem can trap a lesser creature soul too, just like any other soul gem). I think it's level 14, you can buy grand soul gems filled with grand souls.

Check with any of the mages guild alchemists or at the Mystic Emporium in the Market District. Really, the best way to get them is to buy them.
